A folding menu tree that contains links and sublinks. Click on the folder icon to expand it. Browsers apart from IE 4.x will see the tree fully expanded (degrades well). Using cookies, this "smart" hierarchical folder menu script will actually remember the state of the folder tree when you navigate to another page, so when you come back, it will look just the way you had remembered it to be. If you can't appreciate this feature, you can bet your surfers will! Note: This persistance feature is only visible in, obviously, cookie enabled IE 4 browsers.
- A Cross Browser Expanding and Collapsing Table of Contents Menu
by Dieter Bungers, GMD – German National Research Center for Information Technology ,Department for Innovative Consulting and Development (IBE)
- Xtree Dhtml tree view menu
This new version is based on objects, so you do not create the actual html code for the tree yourself, you create an object (the tree's root folder) and then you add child items to this. Once you're done adding items the actual html code is generated and inserted into the page. This makes it very easy to create and update the content of the tree (or to dynamically generate it). If you've seen Erik's new xMenu you will notice that it's working in similar way.
- netexpress tree
This is a slick way to give a table of contents for your web site.
It uses Javascript and cookies extensively to create a dynamic hierarchical tree containing the sections and contents of your web site (or anything else you find it useful for). It's neat, clean, and easy to implement.
Features
- Functions similar to Windows Explorer so the interface is familiar.
- Expand and collapse the tree at each level, or expand and collapse the whole thing.
- Mark sections that are new so visitors can easily find new content.
- The state of the tree stays with the user in cookies for a week. Next time they come back, their tree is open to where they left it!
- Easy to update the structure. The Javascript tree data could easily be created from a CGI script reading frm a database, etc.
- Remain on the same page you are on when you open the tree and when you close the tree.
- Family Tree Display
This demo shows how the W3C Document Object Model can be used to create an expanding family tree. The script is compatible with Internet Explorer 5 and Netscape 6, with only three lines of cross-browser scripting. It is not compatible with Netscape 4.
Clicking on a box will expand the level beneath. The script has up to 10 levels; in this demo data has been entered in only the first five. Although presented here as a Family Tree the script can be used for any type of folding-tree menu.
